IRONSTONE AND OPAL

This is a interesting piece of natural ironstone rough slice from the Yowah opal field Queensland Australia. This field is known for its famous opal nuts which contain precious opal. This material has the opal embedded in the iron/sandstone matrix so you can see the interesting patterns this white/caramel opal makes.. Only one nut in a thousand has a nice stone so we slice them all. This takes a great polish and will be fun to cut.

The photo is taken with the stone wet.
